Starting a Business - State Information

The State of Minnesota has created a one-stop location that can help you solve the state’s “regulatory” puzzle, with their Minnesota Business First Stop.

It’s intended to make the permitting process less confusing, and to help developers avoid delays that could come as a result of not getting an expeditious start on the permitting process.  It does so two different ways:
Help you be aware of permits from various state agencies that you may need for your business
Help you make contact with those agencies

Minnesota created Minnesota Business First Stop a few years ago through the Department of Employment and Economic Development, and has been refining it ever since.   There are three ways you can plug into First Stop:
Get hold of Clerk/Treasurer Julie Lammers, 218-342-2091, and she can plug you into the state system
Get hold of Regional DEED rep Brad Brzezinski, 218-631-7672, and he can plug you into the state system
Get hold of Business First Stop directly at http://mn.gov/deed/business/help/first-stop/
The agencies that are involved include:
·         The Department of Commerce, Division of Energy Resources
·         The Department of Natural Resources
·         The Department of Transportation
·         The Department of Labor and Industry
·         The Department of Revenue
·         The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency
·         The Department of Agriculture
·         Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board
